How the scam works

What happens

A scammer tricks a victim into sharing a six-digit WhatsApp registration code. Once the account is taken over, the scammer asks the victim’s contacts for urgent money while pretending to be the victim.

Example scenario
A contact says: “I accidentally sent my WhatsApp code to your number. Please forward it.”
Example wording is illustrative and may differ from real scam messages.
