How the scam works

What happens

A criminal gathers personal information, convinces a mobile network to move a victim’s number to another SIM, and then intercepts calls and one-time PINs. Some scams begin with a fake network employee asking the victim to confirm codes or personal information.

Example scenario
A caller claiming to be from your network says an upgrade is being processed and asks for a code sent by SMS.
Example wording is illustrative and may differ from real scam messages.
